Some time ago, I wrote a guide on how to run PlayStation 2 games on your computer using a console emulator. This time, I’m planning a tutorial un how to emulate GameCube games (PS2 rival) at decent speeds on your computer. This emulator is rumored to also play Nintendo Wii games, but I’ll make an update regarding that rumor as soon as I can confirm it.Now, for those of you that don’t know exactly what the GameCube is, you should know that the GC is a sixth generation console and direct competitor of the PlayStation 2. Titles such as Resident Evil Zero or Resident Evil 1 remake made the GameCube a sought after console by gamers around the world.

In these next few lines, I will be teaching you how to configure your emulator so that you’ll be playing lots of GameCube games on your computer in no time. First of all, download the latest x86 version of the game. After downloading it, extract the emulator (it usually comes inside a .rar or .zip archive) into a folder of your choice. WARNING: after hours of attempts, only the x86 version allowed me to play GC games. The x64 version was slower and presented serious graphical artifacts. So, even if you have x64 Windows or just an x64 processor, go for the x86 version.

After extracting the emulator, it’s time to start configuring it (you’ll notice it’s much simpler than the PCSX2). First of all, enter the folder in which you extracted the Dolphin Emulator and double click the DolphinIL.exe file. The normal Dolphin.exe offers a lot less speed and compatibility.

The main window of the Emulator has appeared. From the OPTIONS tab, choose CONFIGURE. There, you will only have to make sure you’ve ticked the Enable Dual Core, all the Advanced settings, the Use Panic Handlers option and setting Hide Cursor on Auto . You will find all these in the GENERAL tab.

will ANY game work on my mac if i use the bluetooth PS3 controller?

i dont have ANY games that i played on my mac, so i was wondering if i use my PS3 controller on my mac, will THAT make games work on mac?

admin answers:

I have a mac and a dualshock PS3 bluetooth controller. I have also downloaded sixtyforce 0.9.2 (see sources if you want it, password is also there(2nd reference)). I got my controller working via bluetooth by these steps (see 3rd reference for details):
1) Turn off mac bluetooth
2) Plug in controller using the chord
3) Press the PS button
4) Turn on bluetooth mac
5) unplug controller
If the lights don’t show, you have connected it.
You can then change the settings for the sixtyforce controller by going setting -> configure controllers. Check PS3 your controller and uncheck the default controller. Highlight the PS3 controller and click the configure controller button next to it. Put in all the commands you wish. Now you can use you remote with any roms you have on the sixty force (see 4th reference).

DON’T LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE!!! I HAVE A MAC AND A PS3 CONTROLLER, AND I KNOW IT WORKS!!!

Richard asks…

Which game controller actually works with MAC OSX 10.6?

I already tried the Macally Ishock X (which is Mac compatible) and the Xbox 360 controller and both did not work. Is there one that generally works? I would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks

I have downloaded the necessary drivers for both and also used the App, Game Pad Companion. Still, they didn’t work.

admin answers:

The problem might be that your game is not compatible with controllers. Also, you have to plug in the game-pad before launching the game (at least on my pc). You should check the control settings from the game menus, maybe you have to separately choose to use a game-pad like in halo CE. I don’t know any other game-pads so can’t help with that, but good luck with getting it working!

Is the Mac Guitar Hero controller compatible with the Xbox 360 Rock Band game?

I am looking at buying Guitar Hero III for mac and want to know if the controller will be compatible with Rock Band for the Xbox 360. I have heard that Guitar Hero and Rock Band were going to be compatible controllers and they both connect via USB, so I figured it might be logical if they were compatible, but I want to make sure. Please… somebody help.

Use a PS3 controller as a game pad on a mac

Hey. I have been interested in playing some emulations of some old school games on my mac. I want to get a game pad, but money doesn’t really allow for that. I noticed if i plug my PS3 controller in, though, system profiler knows exactly what it is.

do you know of any emulators for old systems that can read a PS3 controller? I have Snes9x, but no dice (unless i’m doing it wrong, if so let me know). or maybe there’s an app out there that can drive the controller. it knows what it is, but i don’t know if it can read the input.

here are my stats:
OS X 10.4.11
PowerMac G4 1.25 GHz
1.38 GB RAM

I don’t think you can. The emulator would have to recognize the controller, and need to have code written to be able to use it’s buttons.
